Mark D. Anderson
is a named partner in the law firm of Coman & Anderson, P.C., following more than twenty years of private practice in various law firms in Chicago. Immediately prior to joining his partner, Daniel G. Coman, Mr. Anderson was a partner in the Chicago firm of Miller, Shakman, Hamilton, Kurtzon & Schlifke. Mr. Anderson began his legal career in the National Office of the Internal Revenue Service as a Tax Law Specialist, primarily writing private letter rulings, while also studying at Georgetown University Law Center to receive, in 1979, a Masters of Law in Taxation degree.
Mr. Anderson has provided structuring, general business representation, tax and financing advice in connection with numerous business acquisitions and mergers, new business formations, long-term operating businesses, multi-family housing real estate developments, shopping centers and hotels. This representation has involved private and publicly owned corporations, employee pension funds and their investment advisors, and numerous syndicated and non-syndicated partnerships, joint ventures, limited liability companies and S-corporations.
Mr. Anderson has extensive experience in tax planning and trust and estate administration on behalf of business owners and their families, coordinating tax planning with efficient business operations. These planning services are provided within the framework of maintaining family plans for income and asset distribution, economic control and asset protection.
Mr. Anderson is admitted to practice before the United States Tax Court and is a member of the American and Chicago Bar Associations. In his work with the Chicago Bar Association, Mr. Anderson has served as chair of Division B (Partnerships and other Tax Sheltered Investments) and Division C (Corporations and General Income Tax Problems) of the Federal Tax Committee. Mr. Anderson has also served as the Chair (1998-1999) and is currently a member of the Executive Committee of the Federal Tax Committee of the Chicago Bar Association.
From 1993 to 2001, Mr. Anderson served on the board of directors of the Lutheran Home and Services for the Aged, in Arlington Heights, Illinois. Mr. Anderson is a frequent speaker on the technical aspects of new provisions of the tax law, as well as on various tax planning opportunities for use in estate planning, real estate and other business investments. Mr. Anderson is also one of the primary authors on Illinois Limited Liability Companies and on asset protection planning for businesses for the Illinois Institute for Continuing Legal Education. Mr. Anderson is also a frequent speaker for the Fox Valley Chapter of the Illinois CPA society.
