Maureen A. Maffei
is an associate in the firm's litigation department. Ms. Maffei practices mainly in the areas of Commercial Litigation and Employment matters (primarily in Federal Court), representing clients nationally in Federal Court litigation.
Ms. Maffei has experience in the following areas of practice: Telecommunications Law (focusing primarily on the Cable Communications Policy Act of 1984 and the Digital Millennium Copyright Act), and Employment Law (representing private employers in EEOC matters, including alleged violations of Title VII, ADEA, and wrongful discharge claims). Ms. Maffei routinely counsels employers with regard to Employee Handbooks, FLMA, FLSA, and general personnel issues. Ms. Maffei also handles breach of contract matters, landlord tenant disputes, collection proceedings as well as representing clients during proceedings before the Illinois Department of Employment Security and the Illinois Department of Human Rights.
Ms. Maffei received her Bachelor of Science degree in 1991 from the University of Houston. After graduation she worked in management for eight years in the hospitality industry before attending law school. Ms. Maffei received her law degree in 2001 from The John Marshall Law School. Prior to joining Coman & Anderson, P.C. Ms. Maffei worked for the firm of Rolwes & Platt, Chicago, Illinois, handling Commercial Litigation. While attending law school, Ms. Maffei clerked for the Harrison Law Offices, Chicago, Illinois, a firm specializing in Employment Law and Civil Rights. While there, Ms. Maffei assisted in the research and drafting of various legal documents, including an Appellate Brief for the Seventh Circuit Court of Appeals, employment contracts, compliance reports (OSHA, CFR), employment manual evaluations, Unemployment Appeals and Worker's Compensation claims.
Ms. Maffei is a member of the Illinois State Bar, as well as a member of the following Federal Bars: Northern District of Illinois, Northern District of Indiana, Eastern District of Wisconsin, and the District of Colorado.
